A Few Home Security Tips For You To Try

True home security is an incremental process that may take a bit of time before it’s finally squared away. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to take a lot of effort nor do you have to drop a bunch of cash for measures to be effective. In fact, some measures can be downright cheap. Their effectiveness arises from the fact that criminals tend to take the path of least resistance, making anything a whole lot better than nothing. Try implementing any of the following today and reap the benefits.

(1) Upgrade all of the locks around your home. Door locks are like any other mechanical device in that they get worn down over time. Eventually they may be easy to manipulate or may not work at all. Besides, a criminal can spot an old lock from a mile away, and they can also spot new ones from that distance too. Anything that could potentially make a criminal’s job harder is going to deter them, thus making this a great home security fix.

(2) Have a deadbolt installed on the front door. The front door is statistically the most popular entry point for a criminal. No matter how new or effective the lock on that door is, it can still be manipulated by a skilled criminal. A deadbolt, on the other hand cannot. The only problem with this home security measure is that it really only makes sense to use it when you’re at home, as it can only be opened and closed from the inside.

(3) Put a watchdog in your backyard and post a sign in your front yard that lets everyone know that it’s back there. Dogs are not only territorial animals, but they have heightened senses of smell and hearing that allow them to detect prowling criminals a lot sooner than you could. To a criminal, the only thing that’s more scary than a dog’s bark is a dog’s bite. Keep one in your backyard and you can be rest assured that most criminals will not be going in through there.

(4) Install motion-activated lights all around your home. Criminals rely on cover of darkness to perform their illegal activities. As soon as their actions are illuminated, they are bound to scurry away like cockroaches. You can prevent them from prowling around your house at night by making use of these kinds of lights.

(5) Install security bars on your windows. They may not be the most aesthetically appealing home security measure, but they will prevent criminals from entering through a window, which can be a lot easier to get through than a locked door.

(6) Install a home alarm system at your residence. There really isn’t a more effective home security measure out there than such a system. That’s because it makes use of a variety of intrusion detection sensors, including motion sensors, that will catch any criminal in the act. As soon as they’re detected, a loud alarm will sound and police will be dispatched to the scene. A criminal with even an ounce of sense will make a run for it immediately, as that will be their best chance of avoiding a lengthy stay in jail.
